My elderly mother in law was taken into Pinderfields hospital after a fall. She had an infection so was hospitalised. She needs encouraging to eat and we were told she was under weight. After 4 days in hospital her top dentures had gone missing. The staff think they have been scooped up with bed sheets and taken to the laundry. They cannot be found so we asked if she could have a replacement set made. The staff say there is no dentist attached to the hospital that can do dentures and after phoning around numerous dentists including the community dentist we have come to realise that there is no chance of replacing her teeth while she is in hospital. My mother in law is very distressed and depressed about this as she is very limited as to what she can eat. It seems no one is bothered. The hospital say she can claim for new teeth but we are not concerned about the cost and dont want to take more money away from the NHS. We just want to find a dentist who will visit her in hospital and make her some more. I feel this is unacceptable and that dental care while in hospital is part of looking after the health of the whole person.
