"Ingrowing Toenail"

About: Tiverton and District Hospital

I was treated for an ingrowing toenail at the Tiverton Hospital in the podiatry clinic. I went in knowing nothing of the operation nor of any of my options, so i was i the dark. I was greeted by a wonderful nurse/podiatrist who made me feel comfortable and welcome and kept me calm. Then a doctor came through and saw what the problem was and briefly discussed my options. They were quite abrupt and very matter of fact (which i didn't quite like because i was totally in the dark about everything) after they explained 4/5 of my options they then asked me which one i wanted. I had to make a decision and due to a holiday in 8 weeks they advised of the healing processes and advised certain procedures 'would not be suitable to undergo due to this' (almost like i should have known It would take up to 6/8 weeks to heal). I had literally two minutes to think and discuss this with my mother and they then said 'i'm going to have to rush your decision as i have other patients to see' This was appalling - I had to make a choice there and then about what surgical procedure to undergo and I was so upset - I should have had a brief letter or phone call explaining different options not told on the day minutes before i even knew i would have surgery when the letter stated it would be a consultation...? I went in knowing nothing about it, and was told to hurry up my choice? that's just out of order. Not only were they very abrupt and rude they also made it awkwardly felt/known that they were of a higher position than the nurse, which is also quite disgraceful - regardless as to who was within the building they should speak to people no matter whom with respect. They also spoke in very technical terms and i had to ask the several times what they meant. The nurse was lovely, and i cannot recommend/thank them enough for their respect, knowledge and care. If it was just them I would have given this review 5/5 stars but the reason for my ratings were due to the doctor being just so rude. They were ok towards the end but to rush me I felt pressured and i was not comfortable with that, they were obviously very knowledgeable and could have been having a bad day but it didn't make my experience with them great.. I understand the NHS is flooded with patients but maybe a general letter of the different procedures should be given out a week before the actual appointment just so people know.
