"Royal Gwent Ward B7- Gynaecology. Brilliant, Well looked after. Cannot fault."

I was admitted for day surgery. Had to be in my bed the night before going to theatre the next day. I arrived at 8pm to a lovely welcoming group of staff, who introduced themselves, showed me to my bed, got me a jug of water and explained that a Nurse would be along later to do Blood pressure etc. They asked if there was anything I needed to which I explained could I please have a window open which was immediately sorted. I didn't have too good a nights sleep as the lady in the bed opposite kept getting up and then was shutting windows etc (it was a humid evening) plus a lady downstairs was giving birth and was shouting and screeching! ! (none of this was the staff's fault! )

In the morning I was woken up by Emma the Nurse who chatted with me and took my blood pressure etc, before the anaesthetist arrived who chatted about the procedure, made me giggle and put me at ease. The gynaecologist then arrived explained the procedure, spent time answering questions. Before the Consultant who had seen me before arrived and spoke to me despite the fact she was not performing my surgery.

The porters arrived to take me to surgery, very friendly and dealt with me with dignity, by doing their upmost to avoid me exposing my backside out of the hospital gown! they were chatty on my way to theatre where I was met by the anaesthetist and his assistant who made me giggle put me at ease. After the procedure I was woken by the anaesthetist who gave me pain relief before I was returned to the ward.

Again being in pain, the Nurse Laura dealt with this seriously and gave me appropriate medication to ease the pain. She didn't get mad when I accidentally knocked my cannula's out when washing my hands, pouring blood everywhere! !

The biggest asset this hospital has are its wonderful staff and I do hope they are acknowledged by their managers as to exactly what they do. They are on the ground dealing with the general public all the time and the dedication, friendliness, knowledge are a credit to their profession. Their sense of humour went along way to easing nerves. I was discharged yesterday evening, there was no rush. It was obvious whilst I was in there that at the point of use the NHS is severely under funded. However it was also plain to see just how hard the staff work and boy do they, however they have not lost the ability to ensure their patients come first. Want to say a huge thank you to you all for the first class care I received.
