"GP Practice"

About: Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear

(as the patient),

My doctor surgery, Southlands Medical Group, rang me at the last minute to cancel an appointment I made with them. I emphasized to them that I was in pain and really needed to see someone urgently and was there anything they could do to help me. They told me to ring at the end on next week when the next available appointment was. I then found out that another of their patients rang in and managed to be seen that day even though it wasn't urgent. After hearing about this I posted a review on the NHS Choices site because this has happened to me before and the surgery should be made aware. The Practice replied to my review saying that if a patient feels they need to be seen urgently they have urgent appointments that can be given the same day, and the on call GP will ring the patient to see if they need to be seen that day or if they can just wait for the next routine appointment. When I read this reply I was so upset because none of what their reply said in my experience was actually true, especially as I said that I felt I needed to be seen urgently. I contacted NHS Choices to report their reply. NHS Choices looked into it and agreed their reply was offensive/unsuitable and removed it. This Practice shouldn't treat their patients like this.
