"I don’t come out of my room very much but today I have really enjoyed the music"

On Monday 18th July The Rosewood Rockers ( Alan and Eric ) gave a performance of sing-a-long with the ladies at the Diamond Resource Centre in Rampton Hospital.

Songs that resulted in an enthusiastic response from the patients joining in with the singing included “ You are my sunshine “ “Country Roads” and “With a little help from my friends”.

One of the Ladies gave a solo performance of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” which was very well received, she has a beautiful voice.

A quote from one of the patients:

“ I don’t come out of my room very much but today I have really enjoyed the music”

Hopefully we will be able to have another musical afternoon soon, I think we should organise these events more frequently

The positive response to the piloting of a sing-a-long led by the Rosewood Rockers confirms that our creative approach to engaging patients in their recovery can be effective even with those patients who isolate themselves and are resistive to treatment. Familiar songs such as "Somewhere over the Rainbow" can evoke a healthy emotional response and provides a sense of control over life by having a successful experiene during the session. As a result of the positive kind words from paitents we shall have regular sing-a-long sessions in the National High Secure Mental Services for Women.
