"A&E - disgraceful care"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital / Accident and emergency

I am extremely disappointed with the care I received at the A&E (extremely disappointed in an understatement). I have been suffering from severe pain in the back and leg (with numbness and tingling) that was not responding to the medication prescribed by the GP. As the pain was getting worse (couldn't even sleep at night) and GP did not have vacancy for urgent appointment I went to A&E. Due to the abnormal presentation of symptoms the doctor who saw me asked me to do x Ray as the doctor suspected it was a problem with my hip (GP suspects it is a slipped disc but doctor disagreed). After X-ray result was released the doctor told me that as they couldn't see anything on my hip that I would need to go back to GP and get a referral to a specialist. When I asked which specialist I should see the doctor literally told me they had no idea as they had no idea what was causing my pain (!!!!). When asked to prescribe me some stronger anti inflammatories/pain killer as the pain was getting more severe (until I could see my GP), again they refused to do and mentioned I would need to go to GP to get new medication... I am appalled by this service and I my taxes shouldn't be spent in this type of care.
