"I have ended up in A&E twice ..."

About: North Manchester General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I have ended up in A&E twice in the last fortnight, in serious pain from an ongoing illness. Each time I was seen very quickly by very sympathetic clinical staff who made me feel as if I was the only patient in the hospital. Both times I had a tiny baby with me, and staff went out of their way to make us as comfortable as possible, and to allow me to breastfeed her. On the first occasion, the Dr went out of their way to call obstetrics to ensure that the drugs that they were prescribing me would not do my baby any harm. I felt that decisions were shared with me, and that the staff really knew what they were doing (a bit less so the second time, when the Dr I saw was, I suspect, very new to the role). Going to A&E is never a nice experience, but both of these times, I really felt that NMG made it as bearable as possible. Particular thanks to a lovely nurse, who was on duty both times, and welcomed us like old friends the second time!

What could be improved

Reception is a bit surly, but I suppose they do have quite a lot to deal with...That said, they could do with a bit more training. The first time I went in, I was in too much pain to speak and yet the receptionist seemed reluctant to take any answers from my husband.
