Both my wife and my brother were patients at the same time - both underwent major surgery. My wife was in the newer Hope building, whilst my brother was in the older Turnberg building. The new building obviously looked sharper and cleaner, clearly designed for easier maintenance, so keeping risk of infection to a minimum. The older building looks a little dated and tired and in need of a face lift. Staff in this hospital appear to have a different ideology about patient care, something I haven't experienced elsewhere - almost as though, at every level there is an ultra strict recruitment process, with no compromises. Both my wife (who is now discharged) and my brother who remains for now, have received fantastic care. My one and only criticism is the standard of patients' food on the wards. It is truly abysmal, appears to lack the slightest thought regarding choice, variety, quality, and presentation. This sadly extends to the staff who were quite vocal, suggesting they found the meals quite inedible, resorting to bringing in their own food. I believe, on many occasions, patients would do a little better if they weren't leaving so much of their meal uneaten.
