"Issues with Bradford Maternity Services"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary / Maternity

My son was born in July. The issues with Bradford Maternity Service are as follows: 1) Obstetricians - you never get to see the same obstetrician so their is no consistency or a consultant who understands your case history, the obstetricians review the notes in the session you have with them and are never prepared, they don't communicate with other teams such as the paediatricians and if other hospital departments are involved and the pregnancy is considered risky like mine was, the most fundamental problem is that the obstetricians do not consult (didn't provide a birth plan considering the baby had a problem with the heart). Midwifes - why are the midwifes always so concerned about cost? Their first priority should be the welfare of the mother and child but the first thing they will do if you have forgotten a urine pot or heard monitor straps is tell you off. Midwifes are very quick to try and get you out of the door when you deliver the baby even though you may have multiple issues like iron deficiency etc. The emphasis should be that a patient is discharged only when they are certain mother and baby are feeling well. Also, again not very good at diagnosing issues. M3 Ward - the midwifes on the day staff was very good but the night staff are appalling. There was a girl opposite me in absolute pain but the night staff when we went to get them, the midwifes were wrapped in blankets in their staff room watching TV. They should have been taking care of this girl or at least comforting her. The facilities in the ward are disgusting. Broken toilets and dirty. When women have suffered incontinence from childbirth it is very important for the staff to ensure that the facilities are kept clean.
