I was on ward seven and was sent home after four days to allow the swelling to go down over the weekend. On the Monday my husband rang the ward to find out when I was to return for my operation. Was told by nursing staff I would be sent for in a week or so. Not what I wanted to hear. My own doctor contacted the specialist and I was admitted on the Thursday morning. I was operated on Friday. I was the only female patient on the ward over the weekend. On the Sunday night the staff changed and I feel everything went downhill from then. I found some of the night staff extremely unhelpful they insisted I was put to bed at 9.00pm. They didn’t come back in until two patients had to be transferred from ward 6. It seemed to me that they were put out by this. At 4.30 am the pain in my heel was unbearable and I pressed the buzzer. after a long wait I asked for painkillers, without actually speaking to me the nurse went away to get the medicine key came back and slapped a pill in my hand, still not speaking. The following morning with a new shift things didn’t get much better, the toilet which is used for male and females was not cleaned and was still in need of cleaning when I left at 4.30pm. the cups were still on all the bedside tables from lunchtime.
No afternoon cups of tea were served. I went for xrays at 12noon but there was a two hour wait, I was returned to the ward and was informed a porter would get me as soon as my turn came around.
At 3.00pm I asked a nurse to find out what was happening, I was told she was dealing with it.
At 3.30 I again asked for someone to check up. Again told it was in hand. At 3.45 I insisted a staff nurse find out what was happening, to be told that there was no record of me being in xray. I think that someone on ward seven was not doing their job. I found that though many of the nurses are dedicated some were sadly lacking in professional skills preferring to sit and talk behind desks and talk about all manner of training courses they should go. I would suggest that they go on a course about people skills. At 4.15 still no one came to see me about my xray. my husband came with my wheelchair to take me home we left and still have not had xray. no one challenged us as we left the ward.
