"Everyone else is a credit to the hospital"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Maternity unit

(as the patient),

I gave birth to a beautiful baby at Falkirk royal maternity hospital. Had a lovely midwife named Carrie Anne who looked after me and really put me at ease as I was scared as it was my first time giving birth. My only flaw was that I asked a nursery nurse to assist me with feeding my baby and she said no she was too busy and a would pick it up myself? ? ? Which made me feel really sad that she couldn't be bothered to help me. But everyone else is a credit to the hospital

Dear gemmagc

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. I hope you are both doing well.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us as I know every minute of the day will be accounted for!

Being a first time mum is all unknown and can be really scary so it is great to hear that Carrieanne was able to ease your fears and helped make the birth of your baby a less frightening experience. I will pass on your lovely comments to her as I know she will be delighted to hear them.

Patient experience is very important to us so I was disheartened and cross to hear that a staff member was unhelpful when you asked for assistance to feed your new baby. I appreciate we can all be busy but there is an expectation that staff will get another colleague to help or at least offer to come back when they have completed the other task.

I would be keen to look in to this in more detail as there is learning for everyone. If you would like to chat more about what happened I can be contacted either by email or telephone as noted below. In the meantime I will be sharing with all areas the impact our unhelpful staff member had on you as a first time mum.

I am sure you will be enjoying every special moment that comes with being a new mum and that your wee baby is just a delight!

With best wishes to you and your family for the future and all the great times that lie ahead.

Gail
