"RAE Infirmary"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I was sent to the Ambulatory Department of RAE by my GP towards the end of July 2016. I would like to express my thanks to all the staff who cared for me on both visits.

They were professional, polite and caring throughout my visit - despite seeming to be understaffed and extremely busy.

The same can be said for the staff who cared for me both on CDU & Standish wards, who seemed grossly understaffed and were dealing with demanding complex cases.

One thing that could be improved would be the meals.

Thank you for your posting in respect of your recent visit to the Ambulatory Assessment Unit; CDU and Standish Ward. I will ensure that your thanks are passed through the Heads of Nursing for both Scheduled and Unscheduled Care along with the link from Patient Opinion to view at first hand.

I was disappointed to read that you felt the ‘meals could be improved’ May I share with you that the recent 2016 Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE) undertaken by patient representatives, which looks at every aspect of a patient’s journey through the environment, WWL was ranked 6th in England for ‘Ward Food’ and 3rd in the North West. Unfortunately we cannot meet everyone’s personal meal requirements but, because we still have qualified chefs in our kitchens we can do better than most and the Catering Department can be contacted during a patient’s stay to meet individual needs. If you would like to speak with a member of the Catering Management team they would be happy to hear your concerns. Please contact the Patient Relations Department on 01942 822376 who will put you in touch.
