"Kids A&E"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

I recently had to visit A&E with my son as he had hurt his hip. He was in a lot of pain and I was very worried about him (luckily it was nothing serious). I could not thank the nurses in the department enough for their kindness and helpfulness. As we was on our way to x-ray, my son turned round to me and said "mum aren't the doctors and nurses so kind". They made him laugh and joked about how his blood pressure measured how big his muscles were. When we left, he was chuffed that his muscles were "94". Its just the little things that make worrying times more easier, and its all down to the nurses and doctors in this department. The NHS gets criticised a lot, but me personally, I think its absolutely fantastic. To think someone can be so kind and helpful to your son, and they don't even know him, just puts faith back in humanity. Thank you so much again.

Coming to the Emergency Department can be worrying for anyone, especially for parents and children.

It’s wonderful to read the difference my ED colleagues made to your experience and how they were able to keep your son smiling as well as make things a little easier for you.

I’ve shared your kind words with my colleague. Thank you again for taking the time to write in.

We hope he is now feeling much better!

Best wishes,

Lucy Thow
