About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department

After a recent experience with accident and emergency unit performance I stated that things were a total shambles and riddled with disinterest. The event that exposed me to this experience occurred on a Sunday night. Since then I have unfortunately had the opportunity of using the response provided by this unit on a weekday night. The difference in attitude and treatment was astounding. All the staff demonstrated a caring attitude even down to the smallest of things like finding a chair to be able to sit with my wife as we waited to progress from the corridor to the actual treatment area. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble and the senior nursing officer was very much in evidence making things happen. Not at all like my previous experience when the Nurse in charge never actually appeared at all. I guess the only conclusion is that to a large extent it comes down to the individual staff and their attitude. Perhaps there is scope to sort out some of the deadwood that do the hospital and its patients a disservice. Congratulations and thanks to the staff who looked after us.
