"The go karting itself was great fun and a real confidence builder"

About: Dirrans Centre

(as a service user),

Dirrans Centre organised a go karting trip to the experience Glasgow. Must admit I was a but scared due to my condition but staff members Nicola, Stephen and volunteer John were very understanding of my need. The staff were great at settling my nerves. They even made the trip on the bus up fun with wee games although it did get off to a rocky start with a member of staff attempting to sing, but after criticism he stopped thankfully. The organisation between the Dirrans and the experience meant that the staff at the experience where fully prepared to adapt our needs where possible. The go karting itself was great fun and a real confidence builder. I had a great day and I can not thank the all the staff at the Dirrans that made this possible enough.

Response from Nanette Masterton, Unit Manager - Dirrans, North Ayrshire Council

Dear Michael Juggernaut,

I am delighted that you had such a good time at the Experience Glasgow. The feedback from everyone has been great! It is important to use activities like this to help people realise that they can still participate in fun activities and that the identified risks can be managed. The Dirrans staff worked alongside the Experience staff to ensure it was a fun day out for everyone, no matter their disability.

Our bus trips are famous for the games and singing involved but unfortunately some staff members are better at singing than others - so watch out in future!!

Many thanks for your positive feedback.

Nanette
