I arrived in Blackpool with my son for a 5 day holiday on Monday for some valuable father/son time. Unfortunately he broke down in considerable pain in his stomach. I took him to a walk in centre, immediately they referred him to the hospital.the walk in centre were very professional and very helpful.we arrived at the women's and children's hospital unit and had to wait patiently for doctors and surgeons. This is a must. We were regularly checked and assured. My son had tests by very professional and helpful staff. It was then decided we stay over night. The nurses requested this and I was more than happy.we were looked after by all staff, even though we had contact with changes in staff, the new ones were just as friendly, helpful. Anyways it was concluded by Wednesday my son had to have surgery to remove the appendix. No decision was made until they were 100% sure. I was very reassured with this. The unit was also very accommodating for his mum to visit, she travelled Wednesday morning for the op. The unit allows 1 parent to stay overnight, this again was fantastic. I opted to sit with my son for the anaesthetic as only 1 person is allowed, this again is fine. The anaesthetic team were also fantastic, maintaining high spirits, a few jokes shared, great conversation to ease any fears my son may have, although he was very relaxed knowing he has a great team with him from the moment we arrived. I finally kissed my son goodbye before he headed for surgery. Following the operation, which went very well, again the care was exceptional, regular checks, the team were aware we had to travel home on Friday (yesterday). They did there upmost to ensure we were ready, but only if my son was well enough.i was informed this may go into the weekend. However great work from the team, my son being well enough, with our bag of medicines, we were on our way and my son is absolutely great today. A super team of professionals, so friendly, accommodating. I thank you all.
