"Life Saving Emergency Heart Surgery"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

On 3rd September 2015, I was transferred from Eastbourne Hospital A&E, for an Aortic Dissection repair.

I knew nothing about any of this as I was already unconscious.

The Cardiac surgery team were waiting for me in the early hours of Thursday morning, & took me to theatre for several hours of surgery, including valve replacement, and a coronary bypass graft.

A few days later a pacemaker was fitted.

I suffered a couple of setbacks with short term kidney failure & a chest infection whilst in ICU.

The surgery saved my life, without a doubt. The quality of care I received in the ICU on level 7, & elsewhere were second to none. I have since made a good recovery, although not likely to be 100% fit again,

This is a very old hospital, with some new bits, but essentially 100+ years old. Despite the hardships faced by patients and clinical staff alike due to the outdated facilities in some departments, the standard of care is commendably high.

Mr Larlham

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your experiences with Cardiothoracic Department & ICU at the RSCH. I have sent your lovely comments to the charge nurse and Lead Consultant for both departments, to share with their staff and I know that they will really appreciate your kind words.

I was so pleased to learn that your surgery had been a success and hope you continue to recover well.

With kind regards and best wishes,

Hannah Pacifico
