Young man with learning difficulties taken for blood test at 11.35 today. There are some fantastic phlebotomists within the department however the one who bled him today ignored information provided as to scar lumps on the vein area and was not even personable with him. After failing to obtain a bleed in one arm and causing him obvious undue pain, for the type of procedure, they were asked to use the paediatric needle for their second attempt but dismissed the size differences and then continued to probe his arm with an ungloved hand. They did not sterilise the skin area beforehand and made the procedure unnecessarily painful again by failing to check for the said scar lumps. With noro virus about and exposure to their own skin flora they increased the risk of infection. I was disgusted by their lack of infection control adherence! Their attitude and brutality left him traumatised! Their overall approach is the worst witnessed to date! Other phlebotomists within the same department, have a far superior approach and if attending with anyone in future I shall refuse to let this person bleed them.
"Awful phlebotomist"
