It is now 9 months since my operation at Glenfield. It involved major lung surgery followed by a 4 week stay. My pre and post operative care were outstanding. Following surgery I was moved to ICU then HDU and finally general thoracic ward 26. I cannot fault the team- work involved from the surgical team through to the registrars, ward staff, catering and cleaning staff...and not forgetting the agency staff.
This clearly demonstrated how a well-run department/hospital can manage complex hospitalisations within NHS constraints. It's to do with the people involved and their attitude to both care for the patients and also to do a good job. I live in London so choosing Glenfield was a result of my confidence in the people I met prior to accepting.
It did mean long return treks for my family and friends, and my only gripe is the inflexibility in the visiting times which were strictly adhered to (understandable for 'locals' but less so for others). That aside outstanding.
Thank you all for you love and support.
