"Multi visits to various depts"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

My father has been having various investigations dealing with different depts. within Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

The staff and technicians have been wonderful apart from one area.

Firstly I would like to praise the Endoscopy out patients department they were extremely informative and very pleasant and caring to my elderly father. Excellent

The next dept was iron infusion and again the nurses were so lovely and friendly and taking time to listen to my father, showing interest. This means a lot to my father.

The next dept was the CT scan again very pleasant and kept my father at ease.

So with all the above I would like to thank all the technicians and nurses for excellent care.

However yesterday the last test was a chest ultrasound.

The technician was unfriendly did not really explain what was happening, apart from barking orders to move, breath in, breath out, turn over, move arm etc.

When my father asked if scan looked OK, (we know they cannot comment), however again no niceties just you will be informed. My father is 89 year old man who has difficulty moving and even though the procedure was not painful, he was upset with the abrupt manner.

When finished they told him he could get dressed, however his chest and back was covered in gel, my father said this and they just said there are tissues there, no assistance. Luckily we were with him to assist. As he would not have managed on his own.

My reason for writing this is for future elderly patients having this done and if on their own would have to dress still covered in gel.

I think this is not acceptable and being abrasive to elderly patients is disgraceful.

Elderly people can get confused quickly and stressed very easily and require re assurance and assistance.
