What I liked
I was very happy with the treatment I received and all of the staff I came into contact with. Daycare was very efficient except for the occasional accelerator breakdown. I had an overnight stay for brachytherapy which was fine except for the toilets, showers and baths, see below.
What could be improved
My comments on clenliness apply only to the inpatient wards, the rest of the hospital was fine.
The two inpatient wards clearly need updating and this still hasn't happened despite earlier comments.
What was totally unacceptable was the apalling state of the toilets, bathrooms and showers. The male ward had only two working toilets and two wash hand basins for over 20 people. I had to clean my teeth using the same basin after one poor chap who had cleaned out his throat tube.
The showers weren't working leaving only one bathroom for everybody. I was allowed to use a shower in the female ward. This was a large room also being used to store equipment.
I realise the difficulty of updating these facilities in a working hospital but there are plenty of options for temporary washrooms, which can be rented. Check out music festivals, surely not an impossible option.
I was tested for MRSA on arrival but, as the results wouldn't have come back until after I was discharged that was a complete waste of time and money, a tick the box exercise.
People on these wards have already got compromised immune systems, this needs urgent action.
Anything else?
My treatment was after August 2012, September/October, but the website doesn't allow that input.
"This hospital has probably saved my life. What..."
