"Unanswered phone calls"

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public who wanted to remain anonymous. We do not have their contact details. They said..

A gentleman was referred to the endoscopy unit at Tameside Hospital. He received an appointment from them by post and details of a solution to be taken before the test, but not the powder for the solution.

He phoned the unit, with the four numbers given, for the next two days, every half hour, but only got an answer phone. Nobody contacted him until after the last call on the 2nd day. He had cancelled the appointment by then, but they did not know this.

He has totally lost confidence in the hospital, and will not use the hospital again. He stated he did not wish to make a complaint.

We are really sorry your service user has had cause to raise this concern with Healthwatch and we are sorry that the person who contacted you experienced unacceptable delays in being contacted.

It is disappointing to note that the gentleman didn’t want to give his details as this would have enabled us to review the specific issue and take action.

Please be assured this feedback will be shared with all in the department.
