"Service good, waiting times the worst"

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

Very pleased with the result of minor surgery, staff very helpful and friendly. The only really bad thing at the Channel Day, and reason for not recommending, was the waiting time, everyone's told to be there at 08:00 and then the order of procedures is decided? Surely this can be done one or a few days in advance, after all everyone is sent a letter, so they know who is expected which day. Arrived at 08:00, was called in at 08:45 to go through the usual list of questions, then was told I'm 5th in line so should be helped around 12:00 (!) The 12:00 eventually became 12:45, which is probably due to normal delays throughout the day. A 5 hour wait for a 30 minute procedure is a waste of everyone's time, surely this can be planned better. (For me it feels like an annoying waste of time, being young, but there are also older people (70+) that arrive at 08:00 to be helped even after me thus waiting 6+ hours)

I am so sorry about the frustrating day you must have had.

Without going into too much detail, it is sometimes difficult to work out the order of procedures for the day, especially if there are patients who are diabetic, who often need to be operated on before the others.

If all the patients for the day are ready and waiting then there are no concerns if people are late for whatever reason (traffic being a prime reason for delays) and the operation list can work more smoothly.

It must have been very boring for you though.

I hope you are now fully recovered from the procedure.
