"I was boweled over by the experience"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Just a quick note on my recent procedure (colonoscopy) in the Royal as a day patient on Wednesday 17th of August as part of the Bowel cancer screenibg programme.

The whole procedure from initial briefing where the procedure was explained and we agreed on types of pain relief etc that giving me a clear idea of what to expecton on the day, to the final cup of tea and buiscits in recovery all was handled in an exemplary manner.

The appointments were made quickly and at an agreed suitable time.

All the staff I had contact with over both days were relaxed, good-humoured, informative and utterly professional.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the procedure was pain free after a few precautionary breath's of “Entonox”.

The highlight being able to watch on a monitor the consultant deftly manoeuvre the scope and to actually see the results on a VDU, absolutely awe inspiring.

Whilst this was happening, as well as before and after, the staff were reassuring and more than willing to answer any of my daft questions.

My only minor moan was that the changing etc facilities were obviously temporary, but apparently the unit is moving into a tailor made suite shortly so that will further improve the service.

Finally in conclusion could I just say a big thank you to everyone involved as you are doing a abolutely top notch professional job and i am deeply grateful for the care recieved..
