"Lack of care for my great aunt"

About: Kingston Hospital Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

(as a relative),

My 96 yr old Great Aunt (who incidentally has all her marbles) was admitted to Kingston Hospital after a fall. I arrived to visit her to find her extremely upset. She told me she had been manhandled by some of the staff and shouted at on a number of occasions. I received a phone call by a member of staff to explain a cut on her arm. However, on speaking to my aunt is transpired she had asked for help to be lowered onto a commode - which she said she wasn’t given - and she cut her arm from the force of her landing. I believe what little dignity she had left was stripped away from her by the callousness of some of the staff.

On one evening, my aunt told me she was slapped round the face by a member of staff who became very impatient with her.

It was not only my aunt who experienced problems, another patient told me she had waited 4 hours for a commode. A husband of a patient who had experienced a stroke said to me they arrived each day to find her slouched over to one side - even though doctors had instructed she should be propped up with cushions.

Thankfully, my aunt has now been transferred to a rehab hospital.
