"Fantastic NICU ward 6"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Neurology

(as a relative),

In June our dad was rushed to you from BRI. He's been attacked after trying to retrieve his mobile phone from the thief who stole it. He was punched once to the left side of his jaw. He then fell back, fractured the back of his skull, had two bleeds, one either side at the front of his brain, one which entered the brain. As you can imagine this felt like a nightmare that we should wake from at any minute. That was not the case. It was happening to us. Our poor 58 year old dad was laid in an NICU bed after having to be sedated due to his injuries and his behaviour from these. He spent a total of 11 days in there before going to ward 25. Every single nurse/sister on ward 6 were amazing with us. They told us exactly what was happening, supporting us when we were extremely upset and also lifted the mood if we needed it. They are all a credit to ward 6. We didn't think we would have our dad back. Now two months since it happened he is at home, trying to live his life as he used to. He has lost hearing in his right ear, hopefully he will get it back again, we just don't know at this stage. The four weeks he spent in hospital was eased by the help and support of the nurses/sisters etc in Ward 6 and ward 25, plus all the physios, occupational therapists, doctors etc. Without you I don't know how he would be now. We will be forever grateful to all you have done for us. Keep up the fantastic, amazing work you do.

Dear Stevens Angels

What a horrible thing to have happened to your father. I am so glad to hear that he continues to recover and am thrilled that you were so pleased with the staff you encountered during his stay with us. Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback, it will be passed on to staff in those areas who will be very happy to read it I'm sure.

Kindest regards

Rosie

Thank you Rosie, they made what was a terrible time so much easier. We more of less lived at the hospital, we were there from visiting hours starting to visiting ending and they were great. We cannot fault the care given to our dad and the support given to us x
