"Hygiene and conditions"

About: University Hospital Monklands

(as a carer),

Posted many months ago about the poor conditions in the male toilets close to reception just across from the WRVS cafe. After further numerous visits it is upsetting to see nothing has improved.

Regardless of what time I have been the toilet always have a very strong horrible odour (more than just to do with cleaning) and the flooring is badly and permanently stained and desperately needs replaced. It is extremely worrying this this has not been addressed despite being brought to the hospitals attention.

This also raised the questions what other things are not up to acceptable standards in the hospital behind the scenes if this is one of the first things you come across. As before I was to reiterate this is not a concern down to lack of cleaning but the fundamental fabrics and quality of the toilets and plumbing.

Thank you for your feedback and comments regarding the toilet facilities at Monklands Hospital.

I am sorry you again found the toilets in such poor condition. We continue undertake regular inspections of the facilities to address any issues caused by the heavy use.

I can advise that we are advancing plans to upgrade the toilet facilities in this location as part of the ongoing Monklands works.

Update posted by stueypot (a carer)

A pretty worrying response escalating concerns about how seriously the hospital takes account of the importance of cleanliness and hygiene. For this to occur not long after concerns raised about maintenance and repairs by Healthcare Environment Inspectorate it really makes you wonder overall how is this hospital being managed. While i fully appreciate this is a period of time when budgets are being reduced and focus always remains on patient care, infection control, cleanliness and hygiene can never be compromised as this only leads to additional costs in the long run. It is extremely concerning for this issue initially to be raised 5 months ago and no end is sight at resolving this serious problem as a matter of urgency.

We take cleanliness and hygiene standards very importantly and recognise that work is required to improve the fabric of the toilets. The redevelopment of the toilets are currently at the design stage with the work scheduled to be completed this financial year (March 2017)
