"My cataract, from dark to light"

About: Weston General Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

My days had been darker of late. My cataract was getting worse which made life colourless. I was due to have an operation to remove it.

What a suprise I was due to have my pre-op check on the thursday but the previous friday they asked if I could attend on the wednesday evening instead and have the operation on the thursday I was over the moon.

Attending the pre-op assured me all was going ahead.

A friend drove me in the next day arriving at 11. 30, I guess they need you there to be sure who was attending, we were told the surgeon would arrive around 1. 30pm he was early you could sense the strain the staff were under if you watched carefully but they never once let that affect the care they gave.

There were 4 men me included waiting to be wheeled in, we soon chatted about who had been there before and how that had gone.

The nurse gave us our eye drops without ceremony but with efficiency, the hospital gowns gave us a laugh, then one by one the surgeon spoke about unlikely dangers, then we were wheeled in. 20 later all was done great service.
