"What an Asset...!"

About: Scarborough General Hospital

Having used the facilities of hospitals across the UK including Central London, I sometimes think those at Scarborough Hospital is grossly undervalued by the local population. I'm particularly saddened by some of the negative reports that appear in the local press. Although visibly under pressure, in my experience,I've found the staff, from consultants to cleaners, not forgetting those employed in admin, show extraordinary compassion towards their patients. Considering that during the holiday season the local population increases threefold, not matched by more staff, is it no wonder then, that the A and E department at times comes under extreme pressure? As someone who has been involved in system analysis, I do however think that combining A and E with the G.P. 'Out of Hours' service and sharing the same facilities, though financially advantageous, the combined department is sometimes in extreme overload to the point it is closed - A few days ago I had reason to call an ambulance for an elderly neighbour living in Hunmanby. Had she required hospital treatment this would have been at York Hospital.
