"Words cannot describe how I feel"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital / Maternity care North Tyneside PCT / Health visiting

(as the patient),

I do not think I had a good experience giving birth to my son at North Tyneside Hospital, when I think it should have been the best day of my life. This was then followed by difficult years. There were some medical problems caused from the birth for me and my son. He had an injury from the forceps and this has meant ongoing problems including operations to my son’s eyes and ears; we’ve been told there are more in the future. And for me, I have had further surgery because I has a 3cm tear which wasn’t identified at the time. Therefore, it was not repaired properly and left to heal with lots of complications for me. I think the hospital is the worst one I have been to because I found the after care very poor. I thought the staff were inexperienced as I felt there lacked communication skills and I feel like I was given no support as I was left in a room where someone popped in every so often. I didn’t think the staff I came across were not dedicated. It was as if everything was a chore. What else can I say, words cannot describe how I feel I have missed out on the first few years of my sons life.

Update posted by juanie (the patient)

well, finally after 4 years, compensation has been offered for the pain and suffering, after being told by some of the staff at North Tyneside Hospital, that all the things that happened to me were normal practice, turns out they were not. The doctor who did not recognise my 3 rd degree tear after the birth of my son, and went onto repair it not in theatre, was not actually qualified to do so, should have been supervised! Well what can i say, still does not change anything but i am so glad i did persue it further.
