My 76 year old mum became very seriously ill for the first time in my 45 years of life and faced the prospect of a hospital admission. Despite this being her worst nightmare we along with her locum GP managed to persuade her that medical intervention was not only necessary but critical to her survival. She was terrified, not only was this her worst fear but was reinforced by the knowledge that those she had cared for most in her life had been admitted to hospital before and never came out. She was admitted to A & E and quickly transferred to HDU in Glasgow Royal Infirmary (ward 52) whose staff cared, treated and reassured my mum and me that she was very ill but they would give her the best care to get her well and on the road to recovery. My mum was sceptical and if I am honest so was I but the positivity, professionalism, confidence and first class care that my mum received in the HDU was second to none. I am so grateful to the team at GRI HDU for giving my mum the best care and getting her through that critical time. They not only provided medical care they saved the most precious thing I will ever have, 'my mum'. Thank you.
