My aunt of 90 suffering with dementia was admitted 10 days ago with pneumonia. She may be returning to her care home soon-but I must say when we paid her one of our many visits one particular day we found her lying on her bed half exposed from the waist down without protection(pads) and the bed was stinking of urine-there were other visitors in the ward at the time.

Yesterday we found her sitting abandoned in a chair in a filthy gown and cardigan-I tried to feed her icecream(which she loves) but her head was tilted to one side and she bless her heart kept dribbling and coughing up phlegm. I cannot understand why the elderly-who need just as much care and attention as anyone are treated in an undignified way-my heart aches to write this to you-but it has to be said-
