"my 1 year old son had a fall and ..."

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

my 1 year old son had a fall and my husband took him to a&e. After being seen by the first nurse he was shown to the childrens waiting room. After an hour he was shown through to see the doctor why see said she want to speak to another doctor as she wasnt sure if it was broken and my husband was asked to wait back in the childrens waiting room and said she would only be 10 mins. I arrived at the hospital an hour and a half later to meet my husband and he still hadnt been seen. About 10 mins later another nurse popped in the room and called my sons name, as we walked through back to see the doctor the nurse very rudely said where have you been the doctor has been waiting for you for ages, my husband said he had been in the childrens waiting room for the past hour and a half where he had been told to wait, The doctor came along and was very rude saying she had called us three times and that she had other people to see and couldnt wait for us all night. My husband kept saying but i havent moved out of the childrens waiting room and asked her to show him where she had been calling us. She showed him and it was the main waiting room she didnt even know that there was a childrens waiting room!!!!! Not once did we get a sorry from the doctor or the nurse they just went very quiet when they realised that they were wrong. After seeing doc we were sent to rainbow ward and were told he needed a blood test and doctor would be 15 mins........2 hours later and no sign of her by now it was midnight we kept asking if it was going to be much longer as my son was shattered and they just kept saying shes on her way. We decided to try and get our son to sleep as didnt know how much longer we were going to have to wait. Five mins after we had got him to sleep doctor arrived for blood test. she started getting things ready when a nurse came in to help and said youve got all the wrong things out. she laughed and said i dont normally do them on children!!!! Not very reasuring for us

What could be improved

I understand that sometimes wards are busy and emergencys happen but can be frustrating when your are told your be seen in 10 mins nd 2 hours later you still waiting. Also if your childs screaming in pain in the middle of the night not to feel that your being a pain by asking if the nurse could give him some pain killers!!!

Anything else?

on a positive note i broke my wrist last year and was admitted to A&E and had fantastic care. I had to have an operation and wires put in my wrist. I was on seabathing ward and the nurses were lovely and really helpful as it came as a bit of a shock to not be able to do much as had arm i full plaster. Even had to laugh when was given a surgical gown to put on and had to pop the poppers together before being able to wear it. Think i would of struggled with two arms but didnt have a chance with just one!!!!!!
