"I felt reassured throughout"

About: Hairmyres Hospital / Emergency department

(as a parent/guardian),

I would like to say Thank You to the staff in A&E. One of the hottest days of the year and one busy evening for A&E as lots of people injured themselves outdoors including my daughter aged 4 1/2 who clattered off a scooter and bumped her head. She briefly lost consciousness and I wanted to check she was ok. Triage charge nurse Eddie was superb dealing with my daughter who could only be described as crabbit as she just wanted to go home and go to bed! Also Carol the doctor who took time to build a rapport with her before trying to assess her. I felt reassured throughout and it was explained that she had probably fainted. I was advised that this would be discussed with the Senior Doctor and following this we were able to go home. I felt this treatment was very patient centred to my daughter and kept in mind the worried parents.

The service could only be improved if there was an intercom for the patient call system.

Dear LMC17

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience in A&E. It must have been a distressing time for both yourself and your daughter and I am pleased to hear that you felt staff reassured you both. I will share your comments with the particular staff involved. I wonder if the triage nurse may have been Norrie as we do not have a staff member called Eddie? Your comments will nonetheless be shared with the wider team as it is important for staff to hear how their actions and care are received.

I am interested to hear how you think the service could be improved if there was a patient intercom. I am keen to explore your suggestion further and wondered if you would be able to discuss this in more detail. I would therefore be grateful if you would contact patient affairs on 01355 585325.

I hope your daughter continues to make a good recovery and thank you again for sharing your experience. Hope to hear from you soon.

Lise
