"Undiagnosed foot fracture"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Trauma and orthopaedics St James's University Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was admitted to st James hospital with a red and swollen foot and it was assumed it was infected as I'm a diabetic although blood results were normal and wound swabs were normal turns out it was fractured an appointment was made at the leeds general infirmary fracture clinic which I attended to be told they would have to discuss my foot with the consultant who wasn't there as it wouldn't heal if they operated on it. I found that strange as I'd had my big toe amputated and that healed. I was sent another appointment and they also sent me one on the same day as the diabetic foot clinic so I rang to cancel the diabetic one as I'd already sent rebook to the text appointments. Only to be told that the fracture clinic appointment has been cancelled as there are no doctors. But they'd kindly booked another in a months time. so you want me to walk around for another month with a swollen painful fractured foot that I can hardly walk on. Perhaps the hospital should stop taking any major trauma patients as it seems you don't have any doctors.

Update posted by Disgusted even more (the patient)

About three weeks ago I went to Pinderfields hospital to the fracture clinic, as I had an appointment there, for a further examination of my foot. I was kept waiting for 50 minutes when a nurse came and asked whether I should be at the diabetic foot clinic. I explained I was there for a fractured foot. They went away and came back ten minutes later and asked to see me in the office, which alarmed me. They said they had spoken to two consultants and they had recommended that I go to the Pinderfields A&E and get a referral to the Leeds General Fracture clinic. No explanation why.

Consequently, I am still walking around with a red, swollen foot that has not been treated. I was told originally that I should not put any weight on the foot but I find that over the months this has dragged on I cannot use crutches as they affect my elbows and so am having to walk as best as I can without crutches.
