"More explanation"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

Had my planned Endoscopy yesterday at the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline, I have had on going problems with my stomach for 5 years now and this is my 3rd Endoscopy.

I am now Gluten Free as the Consultant suggested I go on this diet to see if it helps my problems. After my procedure like everyone you are given a sandwich and cup of Tea, I drink Green Tea so had to supply my own Tea Bags and as I said I am Gluten Free so had to take in my own sandwich.  Surely all Patients needs should be accommodated when they are in Hospital.

Anyway apart from that I got told I have a Hiatus Hernia, nothing else said to me, do I have to do something about it, do I have to take medication, do I have to change my diet again?   I have made an appointment with my own GP now to try and understand what is happening.

I was sedated so didn't ask these questions at the hospital, but surely someone should have explained a little more to me?  ...........quite different from my last 2 Endoscopy's...

Dear Scottish40

Thank you for your feedback, I was disappointed to read about your experience however I am grateful that you have taken the time to tell us about the issues that you had.

I was sorry to learn that your gluten free diet was not accommodated or acknowledged by the staff. We can easily get gluten free food from the kitchen at very short notice and we also have gluten free biscuits on the unit so it is not acceptable that gluten free food was not provided for you.

I am also concerned that you were discharged without the information that you need. I am keen to make sure that you are clear about the plan for your hiatus hernia and your medication and would be grateful if you could give me a call so I can arrange this. I can be contacted directly on 01592 643355 ext 20148 or by email gillian.ogden@nhs.net.

I really am sorry about your experience and I look forward to speaking with you.

Kind regards

Gill
