"Long wait in A&E"

About: St Peter's Hospital / Cardiology

(as a relative),

My wife went to Weybridge walk in centre with chest pain.

They sent her to A&E Chertsey hospital. When we arrived there we noted changes which we put down to ongoing building works.

At reception we were told by the receptionist that adults A&E is across the road!

At the second reception we were told to go to ACMU when we found it we waited eight hours to see a doctor. My wife had just bloods taken during the wait.

Having arrived at the hospital at 2. 30 pm she was admitted to a ward at 10. 30

Once admitted received excellent treatment discharged after spending three nights as an inpatient.

We are sorry to hear that some aspects of your wife’s experience were not good, in terms of the long wait to see a doctor. Equally, we are pleased to hear she received excellent care and treatment during her time on the ward.

Patients with a medical condition (not injuries) should be referred directly to the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) for care. This is a relatively new process to ensure patients don’t wait a long time in A&E when they have already been seen elsewhere (in this case Weybridge Community Hospital) and we know what is wrong with them. We have communicated this change to all of our partners outside of the hospital but clearly we need to do more and following your experience we will do this quickly. Of course, on this occasion you still had a wait on the AMU and I apologise for this. We will look to share your experience with the teams up on that unit and see how we can reduce waiting times going forward.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
