I recently attended the Elmstead Day care centre for a minor op under general anaesthetic. I found the nursing staff and consultants very approachable and friendly but also very professional. I felt I was treated as a human being not just an hospital number. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the administrastration of my admission. My first scheduled appointment was cancelled after I had been admitted as theatre time was not available. Every time I tried to contact admissions I had to leave a message on an answerphone and on one occasion I had to wait over a week for a response only to be told the member of staff was off sick and nobody was covering their work. I found this part of the process completely frustrating and nobody on the general hospital contact number seemed able or prepared to help.
