First of all I've always loved being treated at Amersham Hospital and deplore the loss of services in recent years. Yesterday I discovered that Retinopathy Screening had moved from the pleasant department it was in and has moved back to original space. Expecting the usual 'sting' with eye dilation drops I thought I'd be prepared. But pain was agonising, my feet drummed on the floor and I could see little for hours. Nurse said that everyone had remarked/ complained and 'Our Asian ladies say it's like having chilli pepper in the eye'. I can only surmise that the NHS 'buying the cheapest' had struck again. I take lots of medication in varyiable packaging with variable results. This was an appalling experience that caused me real pain. The most it's caused before is the old 'discomfort'. To be then told I may 'need to go to the eye hospital' by the screener whose English was poor also did not help.
