I visited the walk in centre on Wednesday 3rd August after a nasty fall, i suspected a broken ankle as the swelling and bruising was instant and I was unable to weight bare.
I was seen quickly and instantly sent for an X-ray - upon going back to the nurse they said they had taken a look and there was no damage, it was merely a sprain.
They showed us 2 of the 3 X-rays and mentioned that there was an old break and pointed this out to us - I was then told to go home, take a mixture of ibuprofen and paracetamol, elevate it but most importantly I was to try and walk as normal as I can.
We left and I battled on in agony for almost a week, walking as best I could until the pain became unbearable and it was burning intensely.
on Wednesday 10th we decided to go back but this time we went to Ashford's A&E department....upon going in to see the nurse, they recalled the previous X-rays and said to me "your leg is broken" I was instantly annoyed - there it was clear as day on the 3rd X-ray a break of almost 1 & a 1/2 inches!! they stated that the file had been marked with no breaks or injuries.
They were mortified that I had been walking on it for a week and instantly sent me for further X-rays to assess whether there was further damage.. Luckily there was not, so here I am now in a cast for a minimum of 6 weeks with the possibility of needing an MRI to assess ligament and tendon damage because of the severity of the break. I feel that not only was I let down by the nurse on duty but also by the radiologist that is supposed to recheck all scans and X-rays for missed diagnoses.
