"CAMHS team brilliant but can't get an appointment"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services – Community(City)

(as a parent/guardian),

We have been under CAMHS before for the care of my daughter and about 10 months again we were referred again to CAMHS by a paediatrician. We had an initial appointment in January and we were told we should get an appointment with 12 weeks. After Easter we had still heard nothing, we kept waiting then I called them in June.

I was told the team at Manner school (Mansfield) has been merged with another CAMHS team and this has significantly increased their caseload. It is now August and we still haven’t got an appointment.

The CAMHS team are brilliant when you see them but it is hard when you have a child in crisis and we can’t get an appointment. I cannot get my daughter to leave the house or join in any activities/club.

I think the people that made the decision to merge the services need to be aware of the impact this is having. I think it is crazy to leave a child 9 months without an appointment.

Good Morning Grail349,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your feedback online. We are sincerely very sorry to hear that you have been experiencing difficulties with accessing the service. There have been some significant changes within Nottinghamshire CAMHS Services but the hope is that our response times for those requiring a service will improve as a result of the changes, and already we are beginning to see reduced waiting times. We also now have a CAMHS Crisis Team so to ensure that those in mental health crisis can be appropriately prioritised.

It would be really helpful if you could get in touch with Glyn Connolly (Team Lead) so that we can discuss your daughter's case and ensure that she can be seen by the most appropriate clinician. His telephone contact number is 01159560866 extension 15441.

We hope to hear from you very soon.

Thank you once again for your feedback,

Kind Regards

Nicola
