"Flouting of the rules"

About: Leighton Hospital

I attended Leighton Hospital yesterday for a check up.

Whilst I was waiting for the bus home I noticed there were several members of staff stood in the shed for bicycles smoking.

A security guard approached them (I thought to tell them off) but proceeded to stop for a chat.

The staff headed back inside and the same security guard came into the bus shelter and was chatting to someone else.

Another person entered and proceeded to light a cigarette.

The security guard could clearly see the man but did nothing.

Now I love Leighton Hospital and have had nothing but great treatment but this side lets the hospital down badly.

I really do not see how you can expect patients and visitors to not smoke on the hospital grounds if the staff do and are seemingly allowed to get away with it

Thank you for taking the time to report the incident.

This has been formally put onto our incident reporting system to undergo a local investigation by the security manager.

Part of this investigation will identify and implement suitable follow up action.

Kind Regards

Wendy Astle-Rowe, Health and Safety Lead
