"Poor dispensing in Pharmacy"

About: Hospital Of St Cross (Rugby)

I was given a prescription for two ointments by a registrar in Dermatology. I took this to the hospital pharmacy and was told that I would have to return to the registrar to get a GP referral for one of the ointments as the Hospital Pharmacy does not stock it. I then returned to the Department and I had to wait for some time as the Registrar was no longer available. I then had to return to the Hospital pharmacy to pick up the one they do dispense. I asked why they were no longer stocking the other one? I was told that it would take them 4 weeks to have it added to the list of items they stock and it would be quicker to get it from my doctor. Any other pharmacy gets what they do not have the next day, why 4 weeks? This is an ointment I have had prescribed in the past. I now have to take the form to my doctors surgery to request an appointment, or, prescription. I will have to go back again for the appointment, or, to collect the prescription. I will then have to go to an external pharmacy to have it fulfilled. Why can't hospital Doctors provide prescriptions and why do I have to run around and make at least four visits and take time off work to get a prescription and have it fulfilled? Why can the hospital pharmacy not stock and dispense necessary items which Doctors are prescribing? I understand your pharmacy has recently been changed, for cost reduction? As usual the outsourcers say they will save money and reduce stocked items. However, this usually results in lack of service and patient care. Clearly something has been changed for the worst. Do you consider it acceptable that I have to do all this running around and take extra time of work to get a prescription for something which I have had prescribed in the past? Why could Lloyds not simply make arrangements and have said we are making this available at your local Lloyds pharmacy in town?

That would have been annoying but at least it would not have involved me in all this time off and running around.
