"Disgusted basic rights not met & staff ignorant"

About: Southampton General Hospital

So while I am impressed at how quickly an appointment has been offered (much faster than expected so thank you for that), I am disgusted that yet again, staff employed by this trust are ignorant of the rights of patients.

A right to privacy and data protection/confidentiality does include discussing details with a relative without your permission. It is not the first time nor do I imagine will it be the last.

Staff here seem to feel it appropriate to discuss things with people whom they have no right to.

If you want your privacy and dignity respected, and if you have the ability to choose to go elsewhere, then do.

This isn't a problem in just one department and has been happening for years.

Dear anonymous, I am sorry to read of your concerns and negative experience of confidentiality. Without further details I can only respond in general terms and that is to assure you that all staff who work here are required to complete Information governance training and therefore should be well aware of the rules around confidentiality of information. If you would like to contact us at patient support services ( PatientSupportServices@uhs.nhs.uk) with details of your complaint then we would be only too happy to investigate further.

Kind Regards
