"Poor discharge of the elderly"

My 70 year old husband was discharged from this morning after being in hospital for one week with a very nasty kidney infection. He has a stroke last year and has very limited mobility. He has been on intravenous antibiotics, the last lot being Tuesday evening. These have been causing him to have very loose bowel movements which caused him to soil his clothes on Monday and I had to dispose of these in the bin. Knowing that this antibiotic causes this problem and can take two days to stop, this ward sent him home this morning.
He has been home for four hours and has once again soiled his clothing as he can't get to the toilet in time. I am also 70 and have had to strip him and change him. He has carers in twice a day as I am unable to wash or dress him as I have back problems. Obviously I can't leave him lying in his own muck so I am now in a lot of pain having had to deal with him.
I have just spoken to the nurse who had been dealing with him and expressed my disgust at his premature discharge when I don't think he was in no fit state to return home. She informed me that they were aware the antibiotics caused the runs and that it would clear up in a few days and that they couldn't keep him in the ward any longer. I think this is a shocking statement. I feel like Forth Valley Royal Hospital are not interested in the needs of the elderly and cannot get them discharged quick enough.
