"Four days in Urology"

About: Torbay Hospital

At home currently and feeling weak so will be brief. The staff were faultless to a fault. I am nearly 70 and otherwise fit and well (little alcohol/food, no drugs slim non smoker). Cancer op 25 years ago at Torbay, not to make too finer point on it, saved my life but left me with cancer related chronic fatigue. I was admitted feeling not a little ill (serious neck pain, an infection, swollen leg and testicle). Research has shown that those with chronic fatigue suffer more pro rata the extent of it. I suffered....but not from the treatment but from the behaviour of other patients on A&E. I would admit I am a quite private person who lives a quiet but otherwise pleasant life with my wife - we had four sons and now have 6 grandchildren under 6....my life really. To cut a long story short I was exhausted more than anything by the fact my fatigue from my condition and 3 illnesses at the same time was made considerably worse by the fact of all the mainly necessary 'comings and goings' BUT made much worse by the patient in the next bed. He was about 30 - ex-alcoholic etc who was a nuisance for 3 days to me (and staff). I am due surgery etc soon but 'day' only. However, if this happened again is there anything that can be done? I came home exhausted from the patients and am not a weakling or complainer.....the opposite...it is still affecting my recovery.

Dear Patient

Thank you for taking the time to comment.

It is always good to receive feedback; we try to ensure we share examples of good practice and also that we learn from any negative experiences.

Kind regards
