"children left sitting on main A and E floor ."

About: New Cross Hospital

Took an 8 yr old with breathing difficulties after an injury to the chest on a Friday tea time. They shut the children's A and E at 7pm because they only had one member of staff to man the station and could not work alone with parents present. Children, mothers and babies were sitting on the main A & E floor because there were no seats. It was too hot. Windows do not open. Like a greenhouse. No one saw my child for 3 and a half hours ( supposed to be 40 mins for an initial assessment )- no triage, no obs and no pain killers offered. I had to beg a doctor to see my child. Staff looked like they had lost the will to live and begged me to complain on their behalf. Staff tell me that this is normal.

No child should be left crying on a hospital floor.
