"Wigan Assessment Team"

About: North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

I have been trying to get help from 5bp because I have been feeling suicidal for several months. I am not able to contact them by phone because when I have they are hostile and dismissive and I also find it impossible to speak about how I feel because of my illness. This applies to other agencies apart from 5bp as well. A few weeks ago, after I made a complaint, I got an appointment with the Wigan Assessment Team because I was feeling suicidal but I was only there five minutes and they did not even address how I was feeling then. I do not think you should have to wait so long and fight to get help when you are feeling so ill. Complained again, because that is the only way you can get help, and met Matron but she only told me to get help by phoning services or going to A and E which I have already told them is to difficult for me to do without help.

I am sorry to hear that you continue to experience difficulties in contacting our services. In the event that you are able to contact us or any of the other services you refer to in your posting I would strongly urge you to engage and participate in any therapeutic activities that are suggested. ‘Talking therapies’ are the recommended method of treatment for people who experience the type of mental health problems that you appear to be experiencing and though this may seem an insurmountable difficulty for you at the moment it can be very successful if you are able to take that step.

I would also reiterate the advice given to you by the Matron to call services in times of imminent crisis. Perhaps you could to seek the support of a trusted friend or family member in making contact at these times.

If you have any further comment please feel free to contact Mr Duncan Cartledge, our Assistant Clinical Director. You can telephone via the Wigan Mental Health Management Team on 01942 264622 to speak to him or, if you prefer to write, please do so at the Mental Health Management Suite, Leigh Infirmary, The Avenue, Leigh WN7 1HS
