"Husband's eye clinic appointment at the Ipswich Hospital"

My husband was called into a room and told to sit down in a chair with equipment in front of him.

My husband said hello to the person behind the desk.

The examination of his eyes took about 5 minutes and he was told there was no change and he could be seen again in 9 months.

As we were about to leave I said to the examining person that I would have expected them to have introduced themselves giving their name and position. Their first response was that their name was on the door. I said that wasn't acceptable, then they said they are meant to but they forgot. As we left they said that they hoped we had a good summer.

In the month after the death of Dr Kate Grainger and her work with 'hello my name is' I was very disappointed and angry that common courtesies are not always happening.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your comments and we are sorry that the service did not meet your expectations. We are always looking at ways to improve the service that we offer and welcome feedback both good and bad as a part of this process. I have spoken to the Sister in charge and she will make sure the comments are passed on to the appropriate person. All clinicians will be reminded of the importance of introducing themselves to patients and how to speak to them during the consultation. The issue will also be raised at the next audit meeting so it can be discussed as a department. Once again please accept our apologies.
