"Unhappy with differing diagnosis at St. James's"

About: St James's University Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I went in to A&E St James’s in November 2006, with suspected appendicitis. The doctor came and looked at me, and said I had to be admitted. At this point my mother had gone home to feed my nephew, so I asked them to ring her and tell her that I was being admitted. They did not ring her and she ended up ringing the A&E department and they told her that I had been discharged. When I rang her to tell her I had to stay she was not impressed. Anyway, I was in a week in total, my sheets were not changed until I had to ask them, even though there was blood on them. I went down to surgery after lots of tests and they took my appendix out, they then said there was nothing up with them and they said there was nothing wrong with my ovaries and womb to cause all the pain. But I was in so much pain I didn’t understand. 3 weeks later I had to be rushed back into A&E as I had an infection, which meant I had to be rushed back to theatre to have it cleaned out, I was not impressed having to have more time off work and having all the pain. They still to the day don’t know what the pain is, so I requested that I see a gynaecologist at Pinderfields/Pontefract, they said I needed to have a laparoscopy to find out what the problem was. The day of the surgery came and I saw the doctor who was the main man, he explained what was going to happen and then I went down. I then came back and he came to see me he showed me some pictures of my insides and what was causing all the pain. He said I had endometriosis, a cyst on my ovary and an adhesion to my cervix. At last some answers. What annoyed me was the fact that the original doctor said there was nothing wrong when obviously there is. I don’t understand how he missed it as it is a mess in there.
